What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Contact forms
Information you submit through a contact form will be sent to a member of the Global Data Barometer team. This information will only be used for the purpose of correspondence related to the Global Data Barometer project.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to track visits to this site.
Survey tool
If you participate in a Global Data Barometer survey as a researcher, reviewer, or contributor, your login will be authenticated against a Google Account using OAUTH. Survey data is stored using Google Sheets and processed through a server hosted in the European Union.
Job or researcher applications
If you apply for a job or research role, we may collect and store information about you and your research experience. We may, with your express consent, contact referees and store their responses for the sole purpose of judging your application. We make use of AirTable to handle applications.
Applications made to regional hubs or other Global Data Barometer partners may be covered by separate private policies and arrangements.
Who we share your data with
In addition to the tracking carried out by our analytics provider, visitor comments or submissions may be checked through an automated spam detection service. We do not share website visitor data with any other third parties.
We may, with your prior consent, share job application data with our regional partners to support identification of country expert researchers.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment or send us a message, the comment and its metadata may be retained indefinitely. This is so we can automatically recognise and approve any follow-up comments or messages instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. Other than usernames, which users cannot change, all users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
